Equine Pathways UK is a Leeds based equine therapy organisation, offering free of charge sessions to children and adults suffering with mental disorders and impairments. Our centre users range from children struggling with bullying, autism and learning difficulties; to adults battling depression and overcoming other stressful illnesses.
Equine Pathways understands that horses are very sensitive and emotionally connected animals, they have the ability to sense our emotions and respond in a very comforting and supportive way. Many of Equine Pathways horses have been rescued from unsuitable living conditions and carefully rehabilitated, this mutual history of hardship helps to form a strong connection between its centre users and the therapy horses, creating a unique bond and helping to build a relationship of confidence, self-esteem and comfort.
Recently, Equine Pathways services have been recognised by ‘The Yorkshire Choice Awards’, ‘The Duke of York Awards’ & the Lord Mayor of Leeds, receiving three nominations, the Community Initiative award and recognition of outstanding contribution to the citizens and communities of Leeds.
One of Equipride’s key values is a focus on giving back to the local and wider community. On top of donating supplies, we donate a percentage of sales to local charities. Mental health problems are a growing public health concern. Despite the government’s pledge to put mental health on an equal footing to physical health, NHS England and the health regulator Monitor recommended that mental health services be cut by 20% more than acute hospitals (https://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2014/aug/13/what-is-the-state-of-mental-health-in-england-and-wales). With 1 in 4 people in the UK experiencing a mental health problem each year (mind.org.uk), organisations like Equine Pathways UK play a vital role in offering free therapy to those struggling with depression, anxiety, autism and other stressful illnesses.
Equine Pathways is Equipride’s nominated charity for 2017.
